(Rawalpindi) With 11 people losing their lives
to Covid-19 and another 367 testing positive in the twin cities, the Rawalpindi
administration on Tuesday identified five areas in the garrison city for smart
lockdown following a surge in the number of patients in the last two weeks. However;
the lockdown will be imposed after getting approval from the Punjab government.
The areas that are likely to be sealed are Dhoke Najju Sector-3 Khayaban-i-Sir
Syed; Block-D Satellite Town; Pirwadhai; Waris Khan and Chaklala Scheme-III.
The local administration has also put 16 more areas under observation after
cases in these localities had also risen. A total of 204 patients were reported
from a population of 10,090 in these areas with 133 patients surfacing in the
last two weeks alone. As many as 118 patients were detected in Dhoke Najju
Sector-3 Khayaban-i-Sir Syed with 15 shifted to the hospital in the last two
weeks. Similarly; 28 patients were reported from Block-D Satellite Town with 12
in the last two weeks. A total of 31 patients arrived from Pirwadhai with five
in the last two weeks; six patients surfaced in Waris Khan; five in the last
two weeks and 21 cases were reported from Chaklala Scheme-III with 13 reported
in the last two weeks.

Deputy Commissioner General Zaheer Anwar Jappa told Dawn that the district
administration had compiled the data of all areas and lockdown would be
enforced where the number of patients was increasing.
He
said initially five localities had been declared hotspots while 16 others were
under observation, adding that recommendations had been sent to the provincial
government and after approval lockdown would be enforced. Mr. Jappa said there
was a need to create awareness among people to adopt safety measures. On the
other hand, seven people died in Rawalpindi district from the virus and 122
more tested positive on Tuesday. As many as 10 patients recovered and were
discharged from hospitals. Fazal Jan; 80, a resident of Dhoke Gangal; was
brought to Bahria Hospital on Dec 7 where he died late Monday night. Naeem Bibi;
70, a resident of Dhamial; arrived in Holy Family Hospital on Dec 7 where she succumbed
to the deadly virus on Tuesday. Mohammad Akram; 86; resident of Lalazar; was
shifted to Rawalpindi Institute of Urology on Dec 7 but died on Tuesday. Zara
Bibi, 52; from Mohallah Sultanpura; was also brought to Rawalpindi Institute of
Urology on Dec 3 where she breathed her last on Tuesday. Shamim Qaiser; 87,
resident of Allahabad Westridge-3; had been under treatment at Rawalpindi
Institute of Urology since Nov 22 where she succumbed to the virus on Tuesday. Sohail
Bashir; 58; resident of Ayub Colony Chaklala Scheme-3; was brought to Dr. Akbar
Niazi Teaching Hospital on Dec 7 but died on Monday night. Similarly; Anwar Jan;
69; from Jalaldin Colony; died at Fauji Foundation Hospital on Monday night
where she had been admitted on Dec 7. A total of 1,245 confirmed patients are
under treatment in the district with 171 in hospitals and the remaining
isolated at home. Since March; 11,325 confirmed patients have been reported in
Rawalpindi district while 9,628 have been discharged from hospitals after recovering.
As many as 452 people have so far died in the district. Commissioner retired
Capt Mohammad Mehmood told Dawn that 13,372 people tested positive for Covid-19
since March, including 851 in Attock; 791 in Jhelum and 405 in Chakwal.He said
542 people have lost their lives in Rawalpindi Division with 452 in Rawalpindi;
22 in Attock; 12 in Jhelum and 56 in Chakwal.
Islamabad
Four patients succumbed tot he virus in
Islamabad on Tuesday. All were males and died in various hospitals. According
to the capital administration officials, one was in the age group of 60-69
while the other three were in the age bracket of 70-79. They were residents of
I-8; G-9; F-6 and Bhara Kahu; the officials added. However, a decline was seen
in the number of confirmed cases in the capital as 245 people contracted the
virus on Tuesday compared to 402 a day earlier. The officials said during the
last 24 hours; 5,019 tests were conducted among whom 272 were contacts of
positive cases and 4,747 were other suspects. Out of the total; results of 245
people came back positive; the officials said; adding that the positivity rate
stood at 4.8. Eighteen cases were reported from Tarlai, followed by 14 each
from G-11 and Bahria Town, 11 each from G-5, F-11, E-11 and Bhara Kahu, 10 each
from Ghauri Town, G-13, G-10 and DHA-II, nine from F-10, eight each from I-8
and G-9, seven each from Bahria Enclave and Chattha Bakhtawar, six each from
Soan Garden and PWD, five from G-7, four each from G-8, G-15 and F-6, three
each from D-17, Model Town, Khanna, I-14, I-10, G-6 and F-7, two each from CBR
Town, Banigala, Tramri, Naval Anchorage, I-9, H-13, G-14, F-8, F-15 and E-9,
one each from Bilal Town; B-17; Rawat; H-12, G-16 and E-7.
Attock
The district saw eight more Covid-19 cases with
one suspected patient passing away on Tuesday. District Health Authority Chief
Executive Officer Dr Jawad Elahi said Abdul Rehman, 60, a resident of Attock,
died at the isolation ward of the District Headquarters Hospital before his
test result was received. He said among the new cases; six belonged to Attock
city and one each to Hazro and Hassanabdal tehsils; adding that one doctor was
among the infected people. At present, there are 104 active patients in the
district - 98 home isolated and six hospitalized. He said eight suspected
patients were also admitted to the DHQ hospital with seven in critical
condition. He said so far 725 patients had recovered in the district while
results of 343 suspected patients were awaited. Meanwhile; seven positive cases
were reported in Taxila in the last 24 hours, raising the tally to 778,
according to statistics released by the health authorities. Two new cases were
reported from an area declared a hotspot and put under a smart lockdown. Two
cases were reported from Ward 1 of Wah. Four of the new cases were from Wah and
three from Taxila. There are at present 174 active patients and all are under
home isolation. Moreover, 578 patients have so far recovered from the virus.
Gujar Khan
As many as 13 more people tested positive in
Jhelum district on Tuesday, CEO Health Jhelum Dr. Waseem Iqbal said. He said
36,163 people had been screened out of which 791 tested positive while 674 have
completely recovered. Dr. Waseem said 21 people were under treatment in
hospitals while the remaining were isolated in their homes; adding that 12
people had succumbed to Covid-19 in the district
